The prodigal blogger…
Okay, don’t know how full or frustrating your lives have been this year, but I can verify that 2007 has been a busy one for me since I’ve been pretty much MIA around here this year as life happened. Hard to believe that I last posted to the general forum in March and my last FanBlog was almost a year ago!!
And, I almost let stuff like Catie’s appearance in Ellen DeGeneres’s Wish You Were Here, slip by…quite the company she keeps, those notable folks from Maine…a writer, a marathon runner, a model and even a former Senator!
But other than being delinquent in my duties and regardless of the state of the world and all the pain and frustration about that (Hope is a state of mind regardless of the state of the world.), it’s generally been a good year for me personally with a variety of travel that included a fall visit to my best friend’s spread in upstate NY & a side trip to Burlington, VT (to surprise my pals The Wailin’ Jennys at their first shows there and in Saranac Lake) as well as a month in Bali, Indonesia, lots of sailing classes to expand my sailing skills and get a variety of certifications that give me the ‘creds’ to charter my own sailboat next year for my 45th birthday (yes, I’m not ashamed to admit it!
) down in the BVIs, and of course, lots of music.
Folks I’ve seen in concert this year (several on multiple occasions and some not often enough!) include my pals Catie, The Wailin’ Jennys, bluehouse, Blame Sally, Mark Erelli and Emma’s Revolution as well as Girlyman, Indigo Girls, Kris Delmhorst, Cheryl Wheeler, Kristina Olsen, The Ditty Bops, Kenny White, Richard Shindell, Chris Pureka, Ralph Stanley & his Clinch Mountain Boys, a couple of choral groups and a couple of other people you wouldn’t know…and I’m probably missing something too! Other shows I had hoped to see but for which I was either sick, busy, or out of town included Erika Luckett, Laura Love, Heather Combs, the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, and the Asylum St. Spankers among others.
Do chime in at the forum and let us know what you’ve been up to and what music has filled your calendars. You never know who you might hear about for the first time that might become your next most favorite musician!!
So here we are now in mid-October already - sheesh! - and we in the Bay Area are lucky enough to have our gal Catie coming back to Berkeley for not one, but two shows on October 24 & 25 at the venerable Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse. Catie will be sharing the stage with another wonderful musician and local Berkeley artist now residing in NY, Rachel Garlin. I’m excited to have them both in town and playing together. I’ve been to a lot of Rachel’s shows before she moved and love her music as well. Plus, it’s been a while since the locals have had Rachel home, so I’m sure that between the two wonderfully talented women on stage, the house will be packed! If you’re anywhere in the Bay Area…be sure to join us!!
