Anyone else here into Mary Gauthier?  Some of her earliest stuff is a bit too country for me, but her last to CDs are awesome!  If you're not familiar with her, her Web site is www.marygauthier.com - be sure to check out the video for "Mercy Now"... a great song!

I'm a fan...but wouldn't call myself a diehard fan.  I'd heard of her but first saw her open for Catie at the Palms Playhouse back in the old barn.  She and Catie had co-written "Sugar Cane" on MSLGOY and that's what Catie was touring.

Gotta admit...don't know the latest, but generally her sound has been a little too dark and melancholy for my taste for any length of time.  Maybe if I put it in the "shuffle" mode.   I do like her, just gotta take her in doses.

She joked at one show that "if oyu came to laugh and have a good time, you came to the wrong place".  She is gritty, to say th least, but knowing that it all comes from the heart and her true life makes it a bit more palatable, and touching, for me....
